Sanjay Dutt On His CANCER Journey: ‘First Thing I Said If I'm Supposed To Die, I Will Just Die But Don't Want Any Chemotherapy Treatment’
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt recently spoke at length about his cancer journey at an event organized in a hospital. The Munna Bhai M.B.B.S actor revealed his first reaction when doctors told him about his lung cancer diagnosis and how he decided to fight for his family. Sanjay revealed that the first thing he said after learning about his cancer diagnosis was he did not want to take chemotherapy. He believed if he was supposed to die, he would but will not take any treatment.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Sanjay said, “First of all, I was just discussing right now with my sister and the doctors that how do you realise that you have cancer? Because I just didn't know about it. I had a back ache and was treated with hot water bottle and pain-killers until one day I couldn't breathe. I was taken to the hospital but the thing was that the cancer news was not broken to me properly.” He added, “My wife, my family or my sisters, nobody was around me that time. I was all alone and suddenly this guy comes and tells me 'you have cancer'. My wife was in Dubai so Priya came to me. My first reaction was that, once you hear something like this, your whole life reflects back at you.  ALSO READ: Sanjay Dutt Opens Up On His Battle With Lung Cancer: ‘It Eventually Came Down To Will Power And Keeping The Faith’

Sanjay also mentioned that this made him realize how he has a history of cancer in his family. His mother Nargis died of pancreatic cancer and his wife Richa Sharma succumbed to brain cancer. “So, the first thing I said was that, I don't want to take chemotherapy. If I'm supposed to die, I will just die but I don't want any treatment,” the 63-year-old actor further asserted. Adding to this, Dutt revealed when he saw his family breaking down around him he thought if he would break down too, they will fall sick, so, he decided to fight it.

Last year, on the occasion of his kids, Iqra and Shahraan's, birthday Sanjay Dutt announced that he is cancer free. He penned a lengthy note thanking his family, friends, and fans for being his source of strength through this testing time.

On the professional front, Sanjay was last seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s action drama ‘Shamshera’ which was released in 2022. He will next be seen in the upcoming Indo-Polish war epic The Good Maharaja.
